Which Wall Protection Profile Do You Need?

The Küberit KW range covers three jobs on a wall: metal corner guards that take the impact on exposed corners, tile edge trim and wall edge trim that finish tile or a wall covering cleanly, and aluminum baseboard where the wall meets the floor. Start with the detail you need to solve — the guide below points to the profiles built for it.

KW Profiles by Application

Aluminum and Stainless Steel Corner Guards

KW profiles are commercial corner guards for walls in two materials. For finished walls, KW-F is a retrofit outer corner guard with equal legs of 1-3/16" or 2" (30 or 50 mm), bonded with adhesive, in brushed stainless steel or titanium-finish aluminum. The data sheets recommend stainless steel for food service and healthcare: Küberit stainless steel profiles are roll-formed from grade 1.4301 (type 304) and resist chemicals and mechanical stress better than aluminum. Aluminum corner guards installed together with the wall covering are KW-H, with a rounded edge for wallpaper and resilient coverings up to 1/16" (2 mm), and the two-part KW-J, whose adhesive-set base suits wall coverings from 1/8" to 7/32" (3–5 mm) and takes a click-in top in silver or polished aluminum. KW-A, KW-B, KW-I and KW-K are the matching interior corners.

Metal Tile Edge Trim for Walls and Backsplashes

KW-L, KW-O and KW-Q are metal tile edge trim for ceramic tile on walls. The perforated leg is bedded in the tile adhesive under the last row of tiles, and the visible edge protects and finishes the cut tile edge. KW-L has rounded corners and KW-O square corners; both come in anodized or polished aluminum and in polished stainless steel, in heights from 5/16" to 17/32" (8–13.3 mm) to suit the tile thickness, with pre-fabricated corners and end caps (KW-M, KW-N, KW-P) for outside corners, inside corners and the end of a run. KW-Q is a backsplash trim in silver or polished aluminum in 5/16" and 3/8" (8 and 10 mm) heights, with outside corners (KW-R), inside corners (KW-S) and left and right end caps (KW-T). KW-L, KW-O and KW-Q also work as tile edge trim on floors, and KW-L and KW-O as a slim stair nosing on tiled steps.

Aluminum Baseboard for Commercial Interiors

What the Küberit range lists as skirting is what most US specifications call baseboard. KW-C is the pre-fit version for wood, laminate and carpet, installed with the wall covering; KW-D and KW-E are retrofit profiles for finished walls. An aluminum baseboard is specified where the base of the wall takes impact and frequent cleaning — corridors, back-of-house areas, and any interior where cart traffic runs along the wall. KW-D, with a 9/16" (15 mm) face, and the double-sided KW-E, with an 11/16" (18 mm) face, are self-adhesive and also work as a low metal baseboard trim for any floor covering at floor-to-ceiling windows and terrace doors where a standard baseboard does not fit.

Corners with a Predetermined Bending Point

Two KW profiles are made with a predetermined bending point: KW-H, a pre-fit exterior corner profile with a rounded edge, and KW-I, a pre-fit interior corner. The profile is bent on site to the angle the wall actually has, which is useful where corners are not exactly square or where a run has to follow a curve.

Finishes for High-Traffic Interiors

Wall protection is usually specified to disappear into the wall or to match a design scheme. Depending on the profile, finishes include anodized aluminum in silver, sand and bronze, titanium-finish and polished aluminum, brushed and polished stainless steel, and black powder-coated aluminum (KW-H, KW-I). Custom colors, including powder coating in almost any RAL color, are available on request with minimum quantities — which is how the profile gets matched to a paint or panel color on healthcare, education and retail projects. The standard length is 2.50 meters (approximately 8' 2-1/2").
