KÜBERIT STAIR-NOSING PROFILES

STAIR NOSING GUIDE

What Is Stair Nosing — and Which One Do You Need?

Stair nosing is the profile that covers and protects the leading edge of a stair tread — the part that takes every footstep. It protects the floor covering where it is most exposed and makes the edge of each step easier to see. Küberit KS profiles are metal stair nosings for new stairs and for retrofit work. Two questions decide which one fits: what the treads are covered with, and whether the stair is already finished.

Pre-Fit or Retrofit?

Pre-fit nosings are installed together with the floor covering on a new or newly covered stair. Retrofit nosings are fitted onto stairs that are already finished. Küberit KS-A to KS-E and KS-L are pre-fit; KS-F to KS-K are retrofit. KS-F, KS-G and KS-K take all types of floor covering, which makes them the usual choice when a stairwell mixes materials.

Stair Nosing for Tile, LVP, Laminate and Wood Stairs

Aluminum Stair Nosing: Heights, Finishes and Lengths

Küberit KS profiles are aluminum stair nosing: metal stair edging that protects the floor covering where each tread ends. The pre-fit profiles are sized to the thickness of the floor covering: KS-A, KS-B and KS-C for resilient flooring from 1/8" to 5/16" (3–8 mm), with KS-A also for laminate; KS-D and KS-E for resilient, laminate and wood treads from 1/8" to 9/16" (3–15 mm); and KS-L as tile stair nosing for ceramic tile of 11/32" and 7/16" (9 and 11 mm). KS-C and KS-G are bull-nosed for round wooden step edges, and KS-D is also available bendable for curved stairs. Most profiles come in anodized aluminum in silver, sand or bronze; KS-A is also available in black, KS-L in natural aluminum and KS-H in brass. Custom lengths, colors and finishes, including powder coating in almost any RAL color, are available on request with minimum quantities. The standard length is 2.50 meters (approximately 8' 2-1/2").

Anti-Slip Stair Nosing for Commercial Stairs

A stair nosing does two safety jobs at once: it adds slip resistance at the tread edge and makes the edge of each step easier to see. On commercial stairs with heavy foot traffic, the heavy-duty retrofit profiles KS-F to KS-J work as anti-slip stair nosing: they take exchangeable KS-PVC inserts, ridged or smooth, in colors from black, grey and beige to blue, red, yellow and fluorescent, so the nosing can match the tread or mark the step edge in a contrasting color. KS-I has an extra-wide surface for two inserts and is ADA compliant. Where a non-slip stair nosing without inserts is preferred, the solid KS-K is deeply ridged; KS-D, KS-E and KS-L also have a ridged surface.
